Yesterday Steve and Thijmen (our good friend from Living by Nature) got back from a week demonstrating at The Wilderness Gathering. Not to be confused with Wilderness Festival (which we also went to!) this one is all about bushcraft and primitive skills. So Steve and Thijmen were in their element!
They were part of the set up with The Bushcraft Journal magazine, who they both write for, and were skinning and processing deer for most of it. They were butchering with hand made stone tools, demonstrating skinning techniques, the use of the whole animal – from bones to sinew. They used the brains of the deer to tan the skin and created buckskin and furs. They even carved bone and Steve made a lovely blanket pin, which he sanded using a dogfish skin!
